Echoes Behind Glass I’m standing in Exhibit Wing Delta-9, staring at a glass box filled with plastic utensils. A spork. A red Solo cup. A half-melted toothbrush. Each one labeled with barcode precision and a neat timestamp: Estimated Circa 2000–2025 CE. The museum calls this section “The Age of Convenience.” I call it the quiet scream. My name is Dama Xu, Level Four Earth Historian, Global Archive Consortium. I’ve been researching early 21st-century civilizations for the last seven rotations. And I still can’t decide whether these people were geniuses... or deeply lost. Take the smartphone. Case 47A displays one—cracked screen, weathered, screen frozen on something called Instagram. It’s displayed like an ancient relic, like a sword once wielded by emperors. And maybe, in a way, it was. They carried them everywhere. Slept next to them. Used them more than their own eyes, I think. One of my colleagues, Jaro, likes to joke, “They didn't go online—they lived there.” And he’s not wrong...
